Are you happy that we will get "something" in terms of health care reform?
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Democrats- vow-to-resurrect-apf-4032471551.html?x=0 &.v=3

WASHINGTON (AP) — Giving up on overhauling the nation’s health care system is not an option, the top House Democrat said Wednesday as lawmakers looked to President Barack Obama for guidance in his State of the Union address on how to revive the stalled legislation.

Asked if Congress might abandon a health care initiative beset with political and policy problems, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., responded: "I don’t see that as a possibility. We will have something."

White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer told congressional staff that Obama will use Wednesday night’s address to reiterate his commitment to an ambitious remake of the nation’s health care system, similar to the call he issued last September after critics seized the momentum during a summer of angry town hall meetings.

Although lawmakers don’t expect to hear a specific prescription for how to move forward, Pfeiffer said the president would offer "additional details" on his health care goals.

The speech comes as Democrats are struggling to find a way to advance health care legislation after the loss of a Massachusetts Senate seat last week cost them the 60-vote majority needed to deliver.

"The president is a strong persuader, as they say, and I think it makes an awful lot of difference, and I think he will bring everybody together," said Rep. John Larson, D-Conn.

Others were looking for a dose of reality from the president.

"I think he has to acknowledge that the well has been poisoned, that the debate has been lost, and tell the American people again why this is part of the economic strategy moving forward," said Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa. "Not an issue of fairness because we need to cover everybody, but it’s the only way we’re going to get our deficit in order in the long run is by addressing health care."

Democrats got encouragement Wednesday from groups as diverse as the nation’s Catholic bishops and the head of the largest labor union federation. In a letter to members of Congress, the bishops urged lawmakers to "recommit themselves to enacting genuine health care reform."

"The health care debate, with all its political and ideological conflict, seems to have lost its central moral focus and policy priority, which is to ensure that affordable, quality, life-giving care is available to all," said clergy from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. "Now is not the time to abandon this task."

Similarly, AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka said the Senate should come up with a measure that the House can pass. "We fought too long and too hard for health care to quit for now," Trumka said in an interview.

Both the Catholic Church and labor unions have flexed their political muscle in the debate. The bishops say they won’t support a final bill that includes Senate-passed language they see as too weak in restricting taxpayer funding for abortion. Labor unions struck a deal with the White House to weaken a proposed tax on high-cost insurance plans.

Pelosi didn’t say whether the final bill will be the sweeping overhaul sought by Obama, or smaller-scale legislation that accomplishes only some of his goals. Democrats were on the verge of passing far-reaching legislation before the Massachusetts election.

Stunned by the loss, Democratic leaders have taken health care legislation off the fast track as they try to find a path forward acceptable to rank-and-file Democrats wary of unhappy midterm election voters.

The leading option for moving forward — having the House pass the Senate bill along with a package of changes that both chambers would approve — will take weeks, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Wednesday. That’s time most lawmakers would much rather spend focusing on jobs and the economy, the concerns they say preoccupy their constituents. Many believe health care has become a political drag.

In a sign of the turmoil surrounding the issue, some House Democrats have begun pushing to revive a proposal for a government-run insurance plan left for dead months ago after it became clear it could not command the necessary votes in the Senate.

The House and Senate separately passed 10-year, nearly $1 trillion bills last year to remake the nation’s medical system with new requirements for nearly everyone to carry health insurance and new regulations on insurers’ practices. Negotiators were in the final stages of reconciling the differences between the two measures before last week’s GOP upset in the race for the Senate seat long held by the late Edward M. Kennedy.

Should I carry on bleaching?
Hi, I am a girl and have really noticeable upper lip hair, and about 2 weeks ago I bought Boots Expert Hair Lightener. I bleached my upper lip but ever since it has looked really shiny and obvious in the sun and other strong lights. I have been really conscious of it, and I am not sure whether to bleach again, as the hair is beginning to darken again. Please dont say anything about waxing or shaving, removal cream because I am not allowed to use these. So if you saw me, would you think that a blonde shiny moustache is better than a black one? I have sworn to myself that I will get it laser removed as soon as I am old enough, lol! Please help, I find myself covering half my face with my hand and not looking others in the eye because of it. I think that I have really low self esteem, due to previous bullying - it just makes things 10 times worse :(

Babysitters, The
Babysitters, The (2007)

IMDB rating: 6.90

Plot: A teenager turns her babysitting service into a call-girl service for married guys after fooling around with one of her customers.

Directors:

Actors: Leguizamo John,Comeau Andy,O’Hare Denis,Phillips Ethan,Clark Spencer Treat,Dubin Jason,Fort Harold,Yavnielli Michael,Patterson Jay,Borghese Paul,Fischbach Kyle,Knowles Michael,Melman Jake,Nelsen Eric,Restivo Justin,Drama,

What to do about this person…?
Ok, I am connected to this girl in many ways. She is engaged to my husband’s cousin (which I am supposed to be in her wedding), she is my full-time babysitter while my husband and I are at work, and she is also my friend. Or so I thought anyway. Now I’m not so sure. First of all, she has these tantrums (for lack of a better word) and will just rant about all kinds of things in an email. But, once she’s confronted face to face, or even on the phone, all is well. She claims she was just venting and didn’t really mean it, blah, blah, blah. She keeps saying she loves watching my kids and I’m considered one of her good friends, but when she goes on these "tantrums", it’s hard to believe it. Also, I’ve noticed that she comes up with ideas, but only AFTER *I* was the one mentioning it first. For example: I told her I had family pictures scheduled for this weekend and hopefully getting a tattoo also. She then gets on her facebook and says, "Wanting to get a tattoo this weekend and hopefully pictures done too!" Ugh! She does that to me all the time! Now… this morning, I found her on myspace. She told me a while ago that she deleted her myspace, but I found her (through a mutual friend) and based on her statuses, she doesn’t seem too fond of me. Well, she doesn’t name me, but the things she says I’m sure are about me. I don’t even know what to do anymore? This is exactly why most of my friends have always been guys. I just don’t understand girls. LOL I don’t play games and what I think is what I say, but I feel like I need to tip-toe around her so that she doesn’t have a tantrum. Normally, I wouldn’t really care and I would just not be friends with her. BUT, she is my babysitter and will soon be married into our family (my husband is very close to his cousin). I can’t just ignore her.
But I have nobody else to turn to as far as babysitting. She really is good with the kids. And I know for a fact she would never say anything about me to them and she would never treat them badly because of how she feels about me. That is something I know for sure about her. What I can’t really figure out is how she really feels about me. Do you wanna be my friend or not? Don’t say one thing to my face and turn around and say the total opposite behind my back.

tell your husband about it see if he has an idea
Asia C | Feb 04, 2010

I would confront her about the tantrums and the myspace status’. If she’s saying things like that behind your back, what is she saying to your children? Are you paying her? If you are, I would threaten the fact that you could pay someone else who wouldn’t say bad things about the person who is paying their bills. This can not be taken as offensive because if it’s truly about you, you have to be concerned for the well being of your children. Be nice but firm.
Courtney | Feb 04, 2010

This is exactly why I don’t facebook or myspace with anyone from my real life. It causes nothing but drama. It’s actually torn part of my husband’s family apart.

Honestly, I wouldn’t want someone watching my children that had a problem with me. Maybe your husband can talk to his cousin and find out what the deal is with her. Other than that, there’s not much else you can really do..some people just love causing trouble. I’d stay away from it as much as possible if I were you.
Rosie Babayyy! | Feb 04, 2010

i often vent my frustrations with writing perhaps she does it through email….it could be her way of relieving stress. personally, sometimes when i see what ive written it gives me the oportunity to reflect
malice in wonderland | Feb 04, 2010

OMG this is so much like an old relationship I had. I know it will be hard but you really should distance yourself from her as much as possible. Find another sitter use any excuse you can think of to get rid of her.
My relationship was poison she was all about drama and if she didn’t have any she would cause it for others just like you explained she would do a mass email, a blog, whatever so everyone would see it but wouldn’t always mention a name. She did this one day and I not knowing who or what she was talking about answered her in a if they cant accept it then its their problem! People came back saying looks like she needs to take her own advice she needs to but out she is so stupid to say something like that… Ect. I had no idea what I had done but I had a ton of personal attacks on me I was so embarrassed and humiliated. I blocked her all her friends and relatives and never spoke to her again after writing how much she hurt me, and for what?! I had no idea.
She sent me a B-day card last week (with no return address or I would have returned to sender and she knew that) after 6 months without talking asking me for my friendship back and apologizing and I just ignored it. My life is so much better and stress free without her. She is poison and so is this friend of yours trust me get out while you can and just keep it casual. Explain to your husband why and if he and his cousin want to get together then fine they can do it without you and her!
Good luck!
Mrs Butterton | Feb 04, 2010

Classic narcissist behavior (taking others opinions as her own, not coming up with original ideas, the trantrums, self-involvement, etc). If you can’t completely steer clear of this person, it would be sensible for you to look for someone else to care for your child. Kids pick up tendencies and habits a lot faster than you think.

My wife and I had to remove our daughter from a childcare professional who acted…just the way you describe. It was not a healthy environment and I’m glad we detected it when we did. Save yourself years of anxiety, and your child lots of … episodes.

Maybe you can’t block her from being part of your family, but removing your child from her care will give you peace of mind, and some much needed space.

Know any good spy movies?
I’m looking for a good spy or heist movie. I love the Bourne movies. I’ve also seen spy game, all the James Bonds, the Usual suspects, the ocean’s trilogy, the heist, Italian job, the saint, the TV show chuck, and am currently watching burn notice. I also like assassin movies like hitman, the jackal, and Bangkok Dangerous.

You mentioned many that I was going to recommend. However, if you want to go old school, go with Smiley’s People (from a John La Carre novel). You really have to pay attention, but it rocks.

There’s also The Thomas Crown Affair (not a lot of action, but keeps you on the edge of your seat with suspense), and Entrapment.

Waltz with Bashir
Waltz with Bashir (2008)

IMDB rating: 8.10

Plot: One night at a bar, an old friend tells director Ari about a recurring nightmare in which he is chased by 26 vicious dogs. Every night, the same number of beasts. The two men conclude that there’s a connection to their Israeli Army mission in the first Lebanon War of the early eighties. Ari is surprised that he can’t remember a thing anymore about that period of his life. Intrigued by this riddle, he decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, his memory begins to creep up in surreal images.

What do you think were the implied political messages in Waltz with Bashir?
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the movie. On a scale of 1 - 10, I give it a 12. It was brilliant.
But as an American, I was confused with what the Israeli message of the film was suppose to be. I don’t really see it as pro-Zionist or anti-Zionist, and it rather conveniently blamed all bloodshed on the Lebanese Christians. (Which I understand was mostly historically accurate.) I read an article on haaretz that said it was about realism in a post-moral world, but I just don’t see that as perfectly fitting either. Opinions?

After the press screening, Folman was asked whether he thought his film about his own journey to recover the memories of that war was political. No, he said, calling it a personal film, and stressing that if it had been a political film, the film that he spent four years making might not have been received so favorably by Israelis from all over the political map. Bear in mind that, after a world premiere at Cannes (with no awards - try figuring out that one), the film premiered in Israel, not at the Jerusalem Film Festival, but at a cinematheque in the town of Sderot, near Gaza, where the audience included settlers and ex-settlers - not the kind of public that might be expected to share a former soldier’s guilt about his country’s role in the murder of Palestinians.

Folman has frequently discussed the experience in interviews, and here’s what he said to me over the phone from Israel (a few hours before the film swept up nearly all the major Ophir Awards, Israel’s equivalent of the Oscars): "[There were] a lot of right wing people, a pretty different audience than here in Tel Aviv. It’s when I realized for the first time that there would not be any political debate regarding the film, and I was very surprised. Why did I ever think that there would be? Sometimes we underestimate the audience. We think that we are aiming for a very personal autobiographical film, but they will see it as political film. But they saw it exactly as I planned it. The only criticism I got here at all was from the left side of the political spectrum, saying that the film didn’t show enough guilt for what happened in the camps. And I didn’t expect that."

Rename Me Please! Thank you!?
My name is Fern. I’ve always hated sharing my name with the girl from Charlotte’s web… I’ve always gotten the "HEY FER-ERN WHERE’S WILBUR?!" crap— and the humor dies…rather quickly. I’ve hated my name since pre-school, when none of the kids could say it— even though it looked pretty simple to me— and somehow "Fern" turns into "Ferny"— which I hate with a passion—and the "F" in my name makes me want to join the witness protection’s program every time one of my grades begins a slow decline into the "in-FERN-o" of Failure. Seriously— can you think of one good word that starts with it—? I bet the first word you think of is not pleasant when you think "F"— is it? Fun is not the first in my mind.

Here are some of my pics (just in case that helps)…there’s 3 "earlier" pics and 3 "later" pics. Thanks.

Last Man Standing
Last Man Standing (1996)

IMDB rating: 5.80

Plot: John Smith is an amoral gunslinger in the days of Prohibition. On the lam from his latest (unspecified) exploits, he happens upon the town of Jericho, Texas. Actually, calling Jericho a town would be too generous—it has become more like a ghost town, since two warring gangs have ‘driven off all the decent folk.’ Smith sees this as an opportunity to play both sides off against each other, earning himself a nice piece of change as a hired gun. Despite his strictly avowed mercenary intentions, he finds himself risking his life for his, albeit skewed, sense of honor….
