Baader Meinhof Complex, The
Baader Meinhof Complex, The (2008)

IMDB rating: 7.40

Plot: Germany in the 1970s: Murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the yet fragile German democracy. The radicalised children of the Nazi generation lead by Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof and Gudrun Ensslin are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by the German establishment, many of whom have a Nazi past. Their aim is to create a more human society but by employing inhuman means they not only spread terror and bloodshed, they also lose their own humanity. The man who understands them is also their hunter: the head of the German police force Horst Herold. And while he succeeds in his relentless pursuit of the young terrorists, he knows he’s only dealing with the tip of the iceberg.

Last Man Standing
Last Man Standing (1996)

IMDB rating: 5.80

Plot: John Smith is an amoral gunslinger in the days of Prohibition. On the lam from his latest (unspecified) exploits, he happens upon the town of Jericho, Texas. Actually, calling Jericho a town would be too generous—it has become more like a ghost town, since two warring gangs have ‘driven off all the decent folk.’ Smith sees this as an opportunity to play both sides off against each other, earning himself a nice piece of change as a hired gun. Despite his strictly avowed mercenary intentions, he finds himself risking his life for his, albeit skewed, sense of honor….

NEW alternative songs/bands for me?
I asked this question yesterday and got people suggesting radiohead and iggy pop
i want to hear some new music
these are my favorites- Vampire weekend, spoon, franz ferdinand, the white stripes, the kooks, the hives, empire of the sun
any new suggestions appreciated

I adore those bands and I have a few stuff that I think you’ll like.

The Films, I fell in love with their song Completely Replaceable.

This new band called Girls released their new album ironically called Album, I got attached by their song called Lust For Life.

The Rifles are a pretty cool band, interesting talent.

A band that has been really growing on me is The Subways, 3 piece band that is actually pretty good. Try Rock & Roll Queen.

These two bands have been really recent to me but really class, is The Joy Formidable & Wild Nothing.

Definitely try The Vines.

One of my new favorite bands is Discovery. They have an electronic vibe to them, but their music is really fun. Free Love is a good indie band. Modest Mouse too, you might’ve heard of them. Some more of my favorites are Rilo Kiley, Wilco, We Are Scientists, The Spinto Band. There’s the Virgins too, they’re more of a pop band but they’re still good. Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for though.
Hope this helps! :) meg | Jan 28, 2010

MGMT — Oracular Spectacular isn’t -new- now, but they’re releasing a new album this summer. So expect it.

The Weeks — A solid mix between Kings of Leon and Modest Mouse. A group of 18 year olds (now they’re 19 or so) with Caleb Followill’s (KoL) voice. I’m in love with them at present.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdmeqfPvy pA

Rumspringa — Not a big band at all. You’ll have better luck checking them out on myspace than on youtube for the most part. Found them while searching for The Weeks new EP of the same name, and absolutely fell in love with one of their songs. His voice reminds me of Devendra Banhart’s.

Learning Idiomatic/slang Spanish for the US?
I’ve been studying Spanish, and am pretty good at basic conversation, but I know idomatic usage and slang is important, so I’m looking for good resources for learning less formal Spanish. In particular I’m looking to learn the differences between different areas ie. Puerto Rican/Mexican/Cuban/Dominican, etc., not to mention urban "Spanglish" What’s an efficient way to learn about these differences?

Live with and around the people. If you want to learn ‘Spanglish’ you can go just about anywhere in the midwestern US/California and you will get it.

But, to be able to see and learn the differences between specific countries, you should go to those countries, because once they come to the states, over a short period of time, they all start to speak relatively the same Spanish, and start to loose their country-specific accents and words.

If you can’t get there, I would recommend getting movies (especially Disney Cartoons) and watch them in Spanish. There are different Spanish translations for Mexico, South America and Spain, using culture-specific jokes. Especially Pixar movies, like Kung-Fu Panda or Finding Nemo.
Fubsywubkis | Feb 03, 2010

Since your Spanish is already good enough for basic conversation, the best way to learn idioms and slang is to converse with native speakers from each of the countries you are interested in!

You can learn a lot from books and courses but at the end of the day, language is all about social interaction and the only way you’ll pick up on all of the subtleties of a language is to practice speaking regularly in everyday situations. It’s hard to teach slang because the use changes a lot depending on the context.

The biggest challenge will be to get people to speak naturally to you - it will be easy for them to realise that Spanish isn’t your first language so they’ll often adjust what they say in order to be more readily understood. You’ll have to try and mix with groups of them together so that the conversation flows naturally.

How do I stop my neck from hurting when driving long distances?
I drive from Missouri to Gulf Shores every year (13 hours), but once I get there, the entire trip and for about a week later I am plagued by terrible neck pain. Is there any way to avoid this, such as by using a neck pillow on the back of the car seat? Does anybody know if these work, and if so, what kind did they get?

Is your neck in a draught? Or perhaps the seat is simply the wrong shape for your back. You should take a break every couple of hours while driving and make sure that you move around a bit and have a good stretch!
adam | Feb 03, 2010

You must have a tendency to hold your body rigid while driving, either because you are not into driving the long distances or you don’t like the highways you drive on or at the end you are getting so tired that it makes you grip the wheel harder and you get your shoulders and neck very tight, very rigid, trying to stay awake for that last period of time. I know when we go on vacation we split the driving but find about 12 hours on the road in a day is about all we want to do. If you add in a few of the other factors it can add up to muscle strain in your neck that is getting to you. Here is how you can release those muscles to get rid of the pain, something you can do now before going as well as once you get there if you feel the need. You can also kind of play with them along the way, for once you understand what is getting tight and why, it is easier to keep it loose:
Neck
Invert your hands and put them next to your head placing your thumbs in under your ears and your fingers behind your head. Squeeze together and hold until the muscles release. Then slowly lower your head until your neck is fully extended, release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds.
Back:
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but remain there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
I added the back one in because it is so easy to have your shoulders a part of this as well so releasing them is also going to be a must.
